The Ranger is an effective early-game ranged unit, analogous to the archer. Because the unit is designed to function primarily at range, its base strength is relatively low; this is balanced with relatively high ranged damage. Though this strength is far out-classed by later units such as the Gunboat, the relatively low cost of the Ranger makes it a great early-game unit for expansion, defense, and conquest.
